The Petroleum Geoscience program is housed in the Geology Building on the Chulalongkorn University campus that was renovated specifically for the program. The new facility has ample space for students and staff, including a student study room, a lecture room and computer laboratories. Generous support from Chevron Thailand and PTTEP has provided the program with a full complement of state-of-the-art equipment, including petrographic microscopes and field geology equipment such as a portable permeameter and a portable gamma-ray scintillometer as well as GPS devices.
The program’s computer network features ten workstations. These are integrated into a PC-based network with scanning, digitizing and color printing capabilities. Students have direct access to a computer laboratory that holds the workstations, PCs and peripherals. Technical software includes packages for 2D and 3D seismic interpretation, 3D seismic visualization and analysis, well log and petrophysical analysis including image log analysis, reservoir characterization and volumetrics. There also is the capacity for stratigraphic modeling, fluid flow simulation, forward and inverse seismic modeling, geostatistical analysis, stochastic modelling and AVO analysis, plus a variety of other technical software which includes packages for burial history and thermal maturation modeling and structural reconstruction and interpretation.
Our program library is a part the Chulalongkorn University Library Network (Chulalinet). It is located on the 1st floor of the Geology Building. The library has a substantial collection of books related to our program and electronic subscription to about 20 key journals. Students can borrow books from this library and from 34 other Chulalinet libraries. Borrowing books from other universities can be arranged here as well.
